The Beth, an old fashioned cradle-to-grave hospital serving a town on the edge of the Pennines, is threatened with closure as part of an NHS efficiency drive. Meanwhile, a documentary crew eager to capture its fight for survival follows the daily struggle to find beds on the Dusty Springfield Geriatric Ward, and the triumphs of the old people’s choir (newest member: the Pudsey Nightingale).

Alan Bennett’s new play is as sharp as The History Boys and as funny as The Lady in the Van.

Starlight Express

Director and Choreographer

Arlene has been continuously involved with Andrew Lloyd Webber's beloved musical about a child’s train set that magically comes to life since it's initial inception and first opening in London's West End in 1984.
Starlight Express has been running continuously in a purpose built venue (aptly named the Starlighthalle) in Bochum Germany ever since 1988. Now, following a workshop at The Other Palace in 2017 and after celebrating the show's 30th Birthday, the original creative team have worked on exciting new updates for the show.
